F−1 is a live solo performance by Rui Leal, recorded at Praça da Alegria FC, Porto.
For this performance Rui reconfigures the conventions of performing and recording technologies of the Double Bass, into a new and unique music.
Over the course of several nights, moving through the streets of Porto, Rui produced a series of field recordings using electromagnetic and contact microphones. Rui uses these microphones—formerly used to amplify the double bass—to make audible the waves and signals of material and electrical activity that would normally remain unheard.
Rui uses these field recordings of Porto's hidden electromagnetic nocturnal life as a foundation for his acoustic double bass improvisations.
